Data Quality

Not every record is equally complete. We flag data quality tiers openly:

  • Source-verified — confirmed by USGS records, government databases, or published research.
  • GNIS-confirmed — coordinates verified against the USGS Geographic Names Information System.
  • Field-verified — confirmed by a Soak Trail contributor's on-site visit.
  • Unconfirmed — imported from public datasets (OSM, GNIS) without additional verification.
  • Flagged — coordinates conflict with GNIS data or appear to be placeholders. Excluded from rankings.

191 Idaho records were bulk-imported with default temperature and access values. These are included for geographic coverage but excluded from temperature statistics and the composite remoteness ranking.
